Chauvin Sentenced to Serve 22.5 Years for Murder of George Floyd
Former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin Convicted of Murder
The much-anticipated trial of Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer who murdered George Floyd, a 46-year-old African-American man, has concluded with a guilty verdict.
Chauvin, 45, was found guilty on all three charges against him: second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter. The Justice Department announced today that Chauvin has been sentenced to serve 22.5 years in prison. Chauvin had been a police officer with the Minneapolis Police Department for more than 19 years before Floyd's death.
