Dengue Fever Cases Rise to 666, Deaths at Six

Ministry of Health Reports Confirmed Cases and Deaths

The Ministry of Health has announced that the number of dengue fever cases in Trinidad and Tobago has risen to 666, with six laboratory-confirmed deaths. The latest update from the ministry indicates a significant increase in cases since the last report, which confirmed 303 cases and three deaths.

Epidemiological Update

According to the ministry's most recent epidemiological update, the majority of cases are concentrated in the regions of Central, East, and South Trinidad. The Aedes aegypti mosquito is the primary vector for dengue fever transmission, and the ministry is urging residents to take measures to prevent mosquito breeding grounds around their homes and communities.

Global Impact

Dengue fever is a viral infection that can cause a range of symptoms, including fever, muscle and joint pain, nausea, and vomiting. In severe cases, it can lead to dengue hemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome, which can be life-threatening. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that over 76 million dengue cases have been reported globally in 2024, with 34 million confirmed cases.

The Ministry of Health continues to monitor the situation closely and is implementing measures to control the spread of dengue fever. Residents are advised to seek medical attention if they experience any symptoms associated with dengue fever and to take precautions to prevent mosquito bites.
